Finding a Spiritual Safe Harbour

Spiritual Awareness – Food for the Soul

Our outing today included visiting a favourite tourist attraction here in Narooma, known as the Australia rock. If you stand back and stretch the imagination, I guess you can see the outline of Australia (without Tasmania) within this huge rock, formed by the ocean’s constant effort to push its way over and through the rocks which create a barrier between it and the harbour where boats are safely moored.

Each time the tide rolls in and the powerful waves crash against this giant wall of rocks, everything in the harbour sits peacefully and quietly knowing that it is safely tucked away and no harm will ever come to it. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could somehow find that very same comfort within our everyday lives! The truth is that we can, but it does take a shift in consciousness, and a shift in where we focus our attention.

When life begins to close in, pushing us this way and that, and we become anxious and fearful of how we are going to cope, it is time to become conscious of what is really true. It is time to move our attention away from the physical world to the realm of Spirit. Our safe harbour is found within our being where God/Spirit is forever present and ready to love, nurture, and protect. The wonderful news is that this only requires us to stop for a few moments, take in a deep breath, turn away from the world, and consciously acknowledge God’s Presence. In that moment, we have entered our safe harbour. It is a great idea to make this a practice every morning before leaving home, as then you can secretly carry your harbour with you wherever you go. With the omnipresence of Spirit, life is no longer a battle, but a safe and peaceful
