Resting in God’s Presence
Christ Consciousness – Spiritual Truth
Saying meaningful prayers can often present a real challenge … our minds can think so much faster than we can pray! Subsequently, prayers can become repetitive and stale. We end up questioning as to whether or not there is a better way of spending our time being in the presence of Spirit.
I am often asked about Contemplative Prayer, and the most common questions are … what is contemplative prayer, and how do I actually do this? I thought that the best person to answer these questions would be Jesus.
Jesus: Take one aspect of God such as God’s love, God’s goodness, God’s beauty, or God’s abundance. As you contemplate one of these, put it in the forefront of your mind and simply imagined the words – really think about or contemplate these words. Now move from your thoughts into your heart and begin to feel whatever word you have chosen – eg love, beauty, goodness, etc. Resting in that feeling, you gradually let go and feel [for example] the love flowing through you and around you. You feel it surrounding you, moving out from your heart, and as you do this you sink into love. You are no longer feeling it, you are becoming love and being love.
Now rest in love! There is no need for any question-and-answer time, or any affirmations or any type of prayer. You are already in a state of prayer and being a prayer. Allow yourself to go deep into whatever your chosen focus is in that moment. The contemplation may begin with just two words, but then it becomes a ‘beingness’ and a ‘knowingness’. In this state of awareness, you can truly contemplate God. This becomes the most beautiful prayer.
